MLB News: Minor League Outfielder in Critical Condition After Car Accident
Los Angeles Angels minor leaguer Rio Foster was involved in a "serious" car accident as a passenger, according to the team.In a statement released to the public on Friday, the organization provided an update on Foster, who remains in critical condition."Earlier today, the Angels Organization learned that Rio Foster, a member of our Tri-City affiliate, was a passenger in a serious accident in Richland, WA," the statement read."Rio is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital and remains in critical condition. We ask that the entire Angels Community joins our Organization in keeping Rio and his family in their during this difficult time."Foster was taken in the 16th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He hails from Florence-Darlington Technical College in South Carolina.This season, he started in high-A ball, playing in 93 games and hitting .267/.407/.439. He had 10 home runs, 40 RBIs, and eight stolen bases.For most of August, the 22-year-old won Player of the Month in the Northwest League.He slashed .333/.456/.656 and led the league in runs, along with slugging percentage. He finished second in home runs, RBIs, and OPS, while getting third place in on-base percentage.Friday's game between the Tri-City Dust Devils and the Hillsboro Hops was canceled amid the news of the accident.The Dust Devils released their own statement:"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Dust Devils organization are with Rio Foster who was a passenger in a car accident early this morning and sustained serious injuries," he read."Tonight's game against the Hillsboro Hops has been canceled."For all the latest MLB news and rumors, head over to Newsweek Sports.
